For All the Curious Girls: Stories of Wonder, Exploration, and Scientific Discovery

This anthology is geared towards female-identifying middle graders (ages 8-12) to encourage and inspire them to explore the possibilities of a fluid dynamics career. By sharing what drives us in our work, we ignite their early career aspirations. With contributions from graduate students, faculty, and science communicators, this collection aims to enhance the representation of women in fluid dynamics.

Our goal is to amplify the presence of girls in this field by speaking to and investing in them, nurturing their self-image as they shape their place in society.

We are women* scientists in the field of fluid dynamics who are passionate about building a community that supports and uplifts others in the field. As a not-for-profit initiative, we volunteer our time because we believe it is important to increase the number of women scientists in the field while creating a more inclusive and equitable space for everyone.

Our initiative emerged in 2022 from the Women in Fluids networking group meeting, an annual event hosted by the American Physical Society - Division of Fluid Dynamics where the membership landscape is currently skewed towards male representation. With a dedicated membership of 40+, the Stories of Women in Fluids Initiative is committed to crafting two concurrent anthologies. This approach enables us to engage diverse audiences at various stages of their career journey, expand awareness of women's contributions in fluid dynamics, and foster APS member connections with a wider array of communities.

*The definition of woman and girl throughout this website is inclusive to any femme-leaning individual.
